Fatigue In Athletes - Beta Glucan the Anti-Fatigue Fighter

With the ever-increasing standards required to maintain our place at the the top in the sports world, we are required to keep increasing or exercise and training activities to maintian that lead.

Athletes and fatigue go hand-in-hand. You can't be a sucessful athlete if you are not willing to take that next step. In taking that next step you place your body under more and more stress. This stress can lead to all sorts of issues.

While moderate exercise has been shown to actually boost the immune system, over-doing it, as in "maintaining the lead," can have the opposite effect[1].

The stress we place our body under while trying to make it to that next level catches up to us sooner or later. Athletes are more prone to upper respiratory tract infections[2].

When we place our body's under severe stress we may not notice it at first, however sooner or later we will, we more fatigued, have less vigor and at times we also may notice a lack of metal clarity.

What is happening?

Our body is not keeping up with all the stress we are placing upon it. This stress directly effects our immune systems ability to cope with any other attack upon it. Specifically, the concept of a "open-window" has been discovered. This open window occurs 3-to-12 hours after periods of prolonged stressful exercise. It is during this time that or immune system defense mechanisms are decreased and the risk of URTI is elevated[2].

What can we do about this?

Research conducted on Beta Force Beta Glucan base has shown that 66% fewer subjects reported upper respiratory tract infection symptoms as compared with runners treated with a placebo.

In this double-blind, placebo-controlled the symptoms measured included;

• nasal congestion
• runny nose
• sore throat
• sneezing
• cough
• fatigue
• headache
• general malaise and body aches

Further, participants rated their health 44% higher as compared to normal.

Physical Stress Results

Marathon runners in the two treatment groups (product vs. placebo) showed statistically significant improvements in measurements of physical health. 68% of subjects in the placebo group reported symptoms associated with upper respitory tract infections as compared to only 32% on the oral Beta Glucan product. Upper respiratory tract infections were reported by only 8% of participants as compared to 24% in the placebo group at four weeks.

Psychological Stress Results

In addition to the results listed above, psychological benefits were also documented. Participants showed the following results;

• 222% increase in vigor;
• 48% reduction in fatigue;
• 38% reduction in tension;
• 38% reduction in stress-induced confusion
